I have been coming to the Pilates Studio for 6 years and love it there.
Cherry and Sheila’s classes are amazing – they tailor each class to every students needs, they are welcoming, friendly, professional and truly fabulous at what they do. I have never attended a class I didn’t enjoy and I always feel the benefit from going. It is the only place I have continued to return time and time again – from the warm welcome on arrival, to superb teaching – I couldn’t imagine wanting to go anywhere else.
Keep up the superb work – I am a huge fan.

When I found out I was pregnant again at the end of October last year it was with mixed emotions. At 27 weeks pregnant with my first child I developed Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD), a condition that caused excessive movement of my pelvis, meaning that I was in excruciating pain. I couldn’t walk from 30 weeks and was confined to the house for the end of my pregnancy. The pain continued, in degrees, for over a year after my son was born.
This time round I hoped pilates would help and I joined The Pilates Studio at 16 weeks pregnant. One week later, after not being able to walk for the entire weekend, I was at the hospital. My SPD was back and I was informed by the doctor what my course of treatment would be: support belt, compression socks, crutches, blood thinners to ward off blood clots and possibly a wheelchair if needed. I have a toddler and my husband has his own business – not being able to walk really wasn’t an option.
I am now 36 weeks pregnant and haven’t worn my support belt for over three months! I have no idea what Cherry does at the classes to make my pregnant body work effectively but…well, it does! The classes are varied and challenging but conversely relaxing and enjoyable. Unconsciously, I find myself doing some of the exercises out of the class. Cherry has given me more than a pain free pregnancy. Her classes have enabled me to be a mother to my son, care for him, play with him and know that I’ll continue being able to do so once my daughter is born. (taken from our facebook page 18/06/2014)

Hi Sheila, Cherry & John.I would just like to let you all know that as far as I can remember, this is my first whole year without back problems since I injured my back in February 1993, & the only thing I have done differently in the past year is to start attending your Pilates classes ! Very many thanks,Paul

When younger I have been fortunate to play various sports and up until contacting Pneumonia three years ago was still attending a local gym.
Since that time I have found it increasingly difficult to get back into a route of regular exercise, other than walking our chocolate labrador.
That was until my wife enrolled me at The Pilates Studio. I have just completed the first 6 week course and have found Pilates a wonderful way to exercise for all ages in a warm friendly environment under the expert and gentle guidance of “Sheila”. I have now embarked on The Pilates Studio’s 8 week course and would like to say that my choice of the word “gentle” in respect of Sheila may be up for reconsideration shortly.
Great place to exercise and a lot of fun.

Lynn Atkins I know how good you are. Medical scans showed my babies will always be breach no matter what. My first two were, then I started pilates with Cherry and my third was normal head down position as Cherry said it would be. Can’t thank you enough.
“After ending up in A&E with a torn back muscle in August 2013 I knew that I needed to sort out my back problems. Having known Cherry since the early 90s it was the Pilates Studio I turned to for help. I absolutely love Modern Pilates; my back is better and stronger now and the teachers at The Pilates Studio are second to none in their teaching and expertise. I’d recommend Modern Pilates and the Pilates Studio to anyone; you don’t need to be having any physical problems to take it up! I wish I’d started it before the torn back muscle!!

I can certainly recommend Modern Pilates classes at The Pilates Studio to anyone young or old. I suffered for years with sciatica , back pain and on 2 occasions a collapsed disc (slipped disc). My back was becoming more rigid and movement restricted. I joined my first Pilates class sometime ago now, they are enjoyable and within weeks the exercises made a difference. I am now more flexible, my spine is more supple and my whole body is stronger. Cherry and Sheila conduct their classes with empathy and caring, have many years experience and are truly professional.

I have suffered pain in my lower back for many years due to the job I do. I had many sleepless nights because I could not find a comfy position to sleep. My wife suggested I try Pilates, I dismissed this as I do active sports and thought this wasn’t for men. I finally gave in and went along very sceptical. However the class taught by Sheila is definitely helping and I have seen an improvement within 5 weeks. The classes are not what I expected, they are relaxed and fun!

I used to be exteremely fit. Over the past 18 years I have broken both ankles, a hip and my spine (not all at the same time!). I am fortunate still to be vertical, but the flexibility has obviously decreased. However, doing Pilates with Sheila for the last few Wednesday mornings has inreased my flexibility and general stamina more than I had any right to expext. Now, with a little effort I can put my head down on my knees without bending them. I can also get up onto my shoulders in a bridge position. By the way, I am 75.

As someone such as myself who has had three serious back operation I have found the Pilates exercises given me by Cherry very easy to do at home which has resulted in some easing of the back pains I suffer. On meeting Cherry she had an immediate understanding of my limitations and arranged a programme of appropriate exercises that whilst being beneficial, did not exert me and cause further problems.During each session she is aware of each persons limitations and tailors their individual exercises accordingly. Pauline – Pilates Monday 12pm and Friday 10.45am. (28.6.13)
I suffer with MS. I walk with two elbow crutches and have problems with my balance and posture. I have been attending Pilates at the Studio for 18 months. I feel I have benefited in many ways. My posture and balance is better, my legs feel lighter and don’t ache as much and I don’t feel fatigued after a session. All the tutors are aware of each persons problems, they are patient and kind, explain every exercise, they encourage us to work within our own limits and suggest alternative exercises according to our ability. I enjoy Pilates at the Studio and now attend twice weekly, I always feel refreshed after a session. I also find attending regularly is more beneficial. I never have any regrets after attending a session, but always wish I had made more of an effort when I have missed a session – Pauline.
“Wendy my wife who severely disabled with multiple sclerosis has been treated by Sheila for the last 10 years . During that time she has maintained Wendy’s functional ability, strength and flexibility. In addition to this Wendy finds the sessions educational and also helps with her psychological well being.”

Janet Lee Clinical Pilates Monday 8.15pm (20/07/2010)
Coming to the class has made me realise that I was developing bad habits in the way I was moving to compensate for my knee injury and general stiffness. I have benefited from challenging myself to do squats (and other exercises) which I previously believed were too painful. I have also found the emphasis on balance helpful! I feel very confident that my tutor (Sheila) understands how much members of the class can or can’t do, whilst still challenging us within our limits.
Anonymous Pilates Monday 12.00pm (26/09/2011)
I suffer with Diabetes and Parkinsons. The classes I attend has had beneficial results in the reduction of shaking in Parkinsons and balancing the blood sugar levels. I started with the group some 4 years ago and the workouts have contributed to the stabilizing of my symptoms enabling me to have a normal life. The Studio is large and kept clean and tidy and the tutor (Cherry) is excellent, extremely well qualified and gives exercises appropriate to the individual.
Julie Adamson Cyclefit/Spinning Mondays and Thursdays (18/07/2010)
I cannot believe how much my body has changed, I am thrilled with results. Cherry has a real passion for people. Having a bad back and other health problems worried me about starting exercising, but Cherry is so clued up and really works hard to solve any issues you have. Why anybody would choose a faceless gym over a real family run exercise environment is beyond me! Staff at the The Pilates Studio know your name and take time to laugh and take an interest in you, the friendly atmosphere really lifts you.
Sarah Beard Pilates and Aerobics (23/07/2010)
Not only has The Pilates Studio helped me become more appreciative of what my body can and can’t do, it has helped me understand what I need to do to increase my core stability and how to take good care of myself. Because it is such a lovely atmosphere and such a friendly service I feel I have made a lot of new friends and I enjoy the social side of the classes I attend.
Janet Smith Tai Chi Friday 9.30am (30/07/2010)
I feel I have benefited immensely in all ways, our tutors (Steve) attention to detail is both respected and appreciated. The exercise studio is always clean and tidy as are the loo’s! The staff are always friendly and welcoming, nice too when your name is known.
Margaret Elliott Pilates Friday 10.45am (23/07/2010)
I have enjoyed Mark’s classes and definitely feel I have benefitted in many areas. The exercises are explained really well and the room and equipment is clean. You couldn’t find friendlier or more helpful staff anywhere.
Jane and Maurice Hallam Pilates Thursday 1.00pm (20/07/2010)
It’s so nice to come somewhere, where we are addressed by our names and people are friendly. Also our tutors remember our own particular foibles and problems and give good tuition to a high standard.
Carole McLaren Pilates Monday 9.30am (19/07/2010)
Pilates is the only exercise I have ever enjoyed. The class I attend is sociable but participants are prepared to concentrate and work hard.
Irene Nicholls Aerobics Thursday 7.30pm (29/07/2010)
No two sessions are exactly the same which keeps them interesting, although you take the session seriously and work hard you can have a laugh along the way. Cherry always encourages you to work within your own limits and anticipates difficulties by suggesting alternatives without you being singled out in class or feeling embarrassed. I wish I had time to attend more often!
Jo Hadfield Pilates Wednesday 10.45am (22/07/2010)
The Pilates Studio is always very pleasant and I enjoy the company and have made new friends. Sheila has made a great deal of difference on how I manage my pain and is always ready to give good advice. Cherry has helped also, such a lovely bubbly girl.
J.Warden Tai Chi 9.30am Friday (20/07/2010)
The Pilates Studio is very clean and friendly. I always feel better after attending the class, even when at the start I don’t feel up to it and could have stayed at home. All participants are friendly too!
Janice Barningham Pilates Monday 1.30pm (02/08/2010)
I really enjoy Pilates and despite being one of a class I feel that your individual needs are catered for. The exercises and advice given are beneficial not only for keeping you fit, but if practised will benefit you in later life. I also feel that as well as aiding you physically it also helps with your mental well being, particularly during class. I find that during the session your mind is focused and concentrated on what you are doing rather than dealing with the clutter of every day life!
